TALOQAN (SW): Afghan Border Police (ABP) officials in Takhar province have said the security forces do not have food since past 5 days.
According to the officials, despite the fact that procurement officer was dispatched to 7th Brigade of Kunduz border police two days before the food was going to finish, the Takhar ABP has not received any food yet.
Karimullah, Takhar’s border police commander, told Salam Watandar that the reason for the delay of the food supply is not known yet. He added that the border police officers along with other soldiers in the outposts are starving.
The border policemen urged the authorities to dispatch food as soon as possible.
A local source in Takhar who requested anonymity told Salam Watandar that the border security forces have been gathering food from local residents since past few days.
But, General Aziz Ghairat, 7th border brigade commander in Kunduz, blamed the delay of food supply to Takhar ABP on the central government contracts. “Food supply contracts are signed in the central government from past few months where we do not have access to the contractors. This has resulted in delays of food for the security forces”, justified Ghairat.
He assured that the food to Takhar ABP has been dispatched on Wednesday. The border policemen along with guarding the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, are fighting Taliban insurgents in other districts of Takhar province.
