PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): A number of suspects and criminals in Baghlan join armed groups to escape the law.

A number of Baghlan’s provincial council members told Salam Watandar that, if the presence and activity of armed groups are not prohibited in the province, the activities of these people will have bad consequences.

Mawlawi Abdul Wali Raji, a member of the provincial council of Baghlan, said that those who commit criminal offenses in the province join irregular armed groups to escape the law.

According to him, the continuation of this process will strengthen the irresponsible gunmen, increase the level of corruption resulting in mistrust of the people in the government.

A number of civil society activists and residents of Baghlan said government does not put its words into action in controlling armed groups in the province.

Abdul Hai Nemati, the governor of Baghlan, said there are plans to prevent unauthorized gunmen from carrying out activities, but the presence of the Taliban in parts of the province hinders the implementation of these programs. However, he insisted on taking serious measures to prevent suspects and criminals from escaping from the law.

Baghlan is one of the most insecure provinces in the north of the country, and irresponsible armed groups operate in central Baghlan, Khinjan, Nahrin, Andarab, Khost-o-Fring, Guzar Gah Noor districts, and parts of Pul-i-Khumri city.
