KABUL (SW) – The recent surge in violence across the country claimed at least 136 lives and wounded 189 others in the past three days alone.
Figures compiled by Salam Watandar suggest 42 security forces, 29 civilians and 60 Taliban got killed while 61 security forces, 124 civilians and 4 Taliban got wounded in this period.
The capital Kabul saw bulk of these casualties followed by Helmand, Kandahar, Baghlan, Faryab, Herat, Logar, Paktia and Jawzjan provinces. A single deadly incident in Kabul alone claimed 14 lives and left 145 other wounded on Wednesday.
Two eye-witnesses of such an incident, Mohammad and Hezbullah, said they were shocked by the intensity of the suicide car bombing in Kabul that shattered windows in their home. Gen, Khoshal Sadat, deputy minister for interior affairs, told a presser that the assault aimed at a police station in the capital city killed 14 people and wounded 145 others including more than 90 civilians. He added the Taliban are faced with defeats in countryside and that is why they have staged suicide attacks.
This comes as the NDS said in a statement that three cells of Daesh insurgents have been busted in Kabul earlier this week. Three security forces got killed in eliminating these bastions of the insurgents from the city, it said.
The Presidency said in a statement that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has directed all concerned officials to ensure full security in all major urban centers particularly Kabul.
