Surge in terrorist attacks causes concerns in Herat

HERAT CITY (SW) – A sudden surge in terrorist attacks and killing spree have caused concerns among Herat residents.

In the past four days, the province saw as many deadly incidents claiming the lives of at least six policemen and a high-ranking election commission official besides injuring ten more people.

In a latest incident of the sort, armed assailants attacked a police station in the Injeel district on Sunday evening leaving three policemen and two attackers killed. This was followed by a bomb blast in the seventh district of Herat city at a coffee shop killing four people.

The locals demand the security officials to take serious note of the situation, and put in place measures to ensure peace.

Commenting on this, Abdul Raheem Salehi, member of the provincial council, said due to the alleged negligence of the security officials, at least 20 security forces have lost their lives.

In the meantime, deputy governor, Dawood Hashemi, said the insurgents are unable to face the security forces face-to-face that is why they have intensified attacks inside the city.

Spokesman for the police headquarters, Abdul Ahad, said soon the intelligence and defense forces would capture the perpetrators behind the latest surge in terrorist attacks here.
