KABUL (SW): In a bid to reform the judiciary, the Supreme Court has moved a number of senior and junior judges in different courts.
Abdullah Attaye, spokesman for the Supreme Court told journalists on Saturday that the new Chief Justice has initiated measures to reform the judiciary. He added that appointment of the competent professionals and administrative reforms are on the cards.
“Some 659 judges have been changed and transferred at the central level, appellate courts, city courts and provincial level”, he mentioned. He went on to say that as many as 6 Supreme Court employees that included judges have been taken into custody.
Tahir Hashemi, a legal affairs’ expert, however, believes that transfers and changes alone cannot bring an end to corruption in the legal system. He underlined the need for a comprehensive plan and mechanism to curb the menace of corruption.
“If a judge has the reputation of taking bribe in one place he is likely to do it when moved to a different place as well so there are many practical ways and principles that can stop corruption or at least limit the chances of it”, he added. In his views, it would be very helpful if the courts ensure timely completion of the pending cases across the country.
