JALALABAD (SW): With the help of aid agencies, the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation (MoRR) has begun facilitating the undocumented Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan.
A delegation from the MoRR visited Nangarhar province on Monday to officially begin the course of providing financial support to those returning refugees who do not poses the Proof of Registration Card (PoRC) issued by Pakistani government. Speaking at the Torkham entry point, the MoRR’s officials together with the Nangarhar governor Gullab Mangal, stated that the government is committed to warmly welcome the returning Afghans.
Every newly returning refugee has been offered AFN 3,350 in cash, the officials added.
Ahmad Wali Hakimi, deputy minister at the MoRR, noted that the documented refugees would be helped by UNHCR with the previously promised compensation ammount. He added 40% of the undocumented refugees would be assisted by the International Organization for Migration (IoM). He announced that some 30,000 residential plots would be distributed among the needy repatriated families in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.
Speaking on the occasion, Gullab Mangal, the governor for Nangarhar province, appreciated the program and thanked the government and international agencies for their moves. He said the returning refugees are in dire need of help.He added that to ensure transparency, the government would introduce banking system for repatriated refugees to receive the aid. The Nangarhar governor stated that this course would be monitored by the MoRR and the First Lady’s office.
