KABUL (SW): FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi netted his 600th career goal in his team’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday night.
The Argentine brought up the special milestone in the 26th minute, when he scored the only goal of the match with a stunning 25-yard free-kick. The strike was Messi's 373rd in LaLiga, and he has now gone on to find the back of the net 28 times in 35 games against the Rojiblancos, ESPN has reported.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has now scored a total of 539 goals for the Blaugrana and 61 at international level with Argentina.
The 30-year-old has made 41 appearances for the Spanish giants so far this season, scoring 32 goals and assisting a further 16 strikes.
Messi's first-ever Barcelona goal arrived back in 2005 against Albacete and he became the club's all-time leading goalscorer in 2015 when he overtook Paulino Alcantara, who netted 369 goals for the Catalan side between 1912 and 1927.
A teenage Messi opened his account for Argentina in 2006, scoring in a friendly win against Croatia and his 61 goals for his country have come in 123 games.
