KABUL (SW): The Kabul Police Chief Salim Ehsas on Friday confirmed at least 13 policemen got killed in a suicide attack in the city last night.
The Police Chief told a press conference that the suicide attacker targeted anti-riot police killing 13 of them and leaving 18 other people wounded. He said police launched a crackdown against liquor and narcotics sale in the Binaye area early on Thursday during which 26 drug peddlers were arrested including a wanted criminal Hussain.
He added the drug peddlers enticed the locals to protest against the operation, and when anti-riot police was called to control the situation the suicide attack took place. A number of civilians are among the victims. The pro-Daesh militants have taken responsibility for the attack.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has condemned this inhuman and un-Islamic terrorist attack, and has vowed the culprits cannot escape the wrath of the security and defense forces anywhere in the country.
