Suicide bomber targets security convoy in Kunduz

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Kunduz officials say 1 member of the security forces was killed and 5 others wounded after a suicide bomber targeted the security forces’ convoy in Chardara district of the province on Tuesday before noon.

Safar Mohammad Akbari, the provincial police spokesman, told Salam Wataandar that a suicide car bomber targeted 9th Unit of National Security and Commandos caravan in the Dobandi area of Chardara district on Tuesday just before noon. According to him, as a result of the incident, one member of the security forces was killed and five others injured.

Mohammadullah, a local police commander in Chardara, said the blast took place in Yatim village at a roundabout.

According to him, around 11 a.m. before, a suicide bomber blew himself up at the checkpoint, destroying five of the National Security Directorate members 9th Unit's vehicles. “The precise numbers of casualties is not known yet, but 3 injured men were taken to the hospital”, informed Mohammadullah.

A security source who does not want to be named told by Salam Watandar that about 70 tanks of the 9th National Security Forces Unit came to the area to clean up the Chardara district from the insurgents, which was attacked on the route to the district.

Mahfouzullah Akbari, the spokesman for the northeast zone, said the incident occurred at the checkpoint when the car was stopped, and there has been no detailed information of the casualties.

The Taliban have taken responsibility for the suicide attack and said that as a result of the blast, some of the security forces vehicles are also damaged.
