KABUL (SW): At least two blasts ripped through the crowd of protesters in the capital Kabul’s Deh-e-Mazang area on Saturday leaving at least 61 dead and over 200 wounded.
The protest rally was part of the ‘Junbish-e-Roshnayee’ movement that has been demanding change in the rout of a power transmission line. Eye witnesses told Salam Watandar that gunfire was also heard following the blasts.
A number of wounded people have been transported to the public hospitals. Nearby buildings have also been damaged.
The security forces warned the protestors against such terrorist activities a day before the rally. No group or individual has taken responsibility for the attack.
Khadim Hussain Karimi, one of the protestors, told Salam Watandar that the blasts have left heavy casualties.
Officials at the Ministry of Public Health have confirmed at least 61 dead.
Earlier, the protestors told Salam Watandar that they would not leave the Deh Mazang Square unless the government meets their demands.
