KABUL (SW): The Special Tribunal for Violence against Women (STVW) has reviewed some 2442 cases of violence against women this year so far, officials said on Sunday.
According to the officials 1375 of these cases occurred in the capital Kabul while the rest took place in different provinces.
Zarghona Mustaghfir, member of the STVW, told a press conference on Sunday in Kabul that some 149 cases of violence against women have been processed in the capital city while 175 such cases are dispatched for hearing at the primary court. She added 230 more cases are under review.
Parwin Rahimi, chief judge at the STVW, also addressed the presser. She said such special tribunals have been created in all 34 provinces of the country to combat violence against women. “We have also signed memorandum of understanding with relevant ministries to create awareness in order to curb violence against women”, informed Rahimi.
Officials added the Special Tribunal for Violence against Women has developed special courses of 7 months for fresh female graduates in Sharia and Law faculties at the Kabul University. These graduates would be given the opportunities to later join the STVW in the future.
