KABUL (SW): The security forces inspected an Afghan-Turk Girls’ School in Taimani area in Kabul on Tuesday resulting in protest by the students and their family members.
According to the officials of the Afghan-Turk Schools, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) forces have taken four teachers of this school into custody, and by violating the privacy of female students, caused fear and panic among the students.
Fazal Ahmad Manawi, the former chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC), was among the protesters. He said the security officials should be held accountable for ‘this horrendous’ act. SidiqullahTawhidi, a member of the Committee of Families of Students, said at the protest gathering that such acts would damage the mental health of students and their families.
Students of the Afghan-Turk Schools said education should not become a victim of government's policies. Rabia Azizi, said the raid of the NDS shocked them. One such student Rabia said it is hard to attend examinations with such stress.
Fawad Haidari, deputy head of the Afghan-Turk Schools in Afghanistan, told Salam Watandar that three of the teachers taken into custody by the NDS are Turkish citizens and one of them is an Afghan. According to Mr. Haidari, the security forces entered the school without a warrant, and so far they have not informed them about the whereabouts of the teachers.
However, one NDS source who wished to remain anonymous, told Salam Watandar that their operation was not against the Afghan-Turk Schools, and the raid was conducted in accordance with the court and prosecutor’s orders, and the police were aware of this situation.
After an unsuccessful coup in July 2017 in Turkey, the Turkish government accused Turk preacher Fatehullah Gullen of plotting the coup against the government. The Turkish government has called for the closure of the Afghan-Turk Schools in Afghanistan over its alleged links to the Gullen Movement.
