MAIMANA (SW) – The management of a number of private medical institutes in Faryab province have lured students to pay bribes worth AFN 5 million for passing grades.
Dr. Naeem Musmim, head of the directorate of public health, said the Ali Sher Nawaey, Dr. Tawarani and Gawhar Shad Begum private medical institutes have taken bribes from their students on the pretext of passing marks in diploma examination. He warned to refer the management of such private institutions to courts that are not willing to pay the expenses of the official examination monitoring teams.
A student at one of these institutes, who wished not to be named in the report, told SW each student has been compelled to pay AFN 3000 for the diploma and AFN 2000 more for the expenses of the examination monitoring teams.
When contacted, a member of the Ministry of Public Health monitoring team, Tamim Ghayasi, said no one has the right to take money from the students on the pretext of passing grades.
Meanwhile, the managers of the Ali Sher Nawaey Private Medical Institute and Tabib Private Medial Institute have acknowledged they collected AFN from each student only for the expenses of the graduation ceremony and the diploma certificate. They said the students have not been charged for the expenses of the official examination monitoring teams.
The health directorate officials, however, claim the diploma certificate only costs AFN 500.
At least 8000 students appeared in examinations for diploma in Faryab private medical institutes last week.
