KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) has chalked a five-year plan for preserving the natural resources of the country.
The plans, which would cost $ 324 million for implementation, would ensure preserving natural forests, water resources and protected lands. According to the MAIL officials, the plan would be implemented from 2017 till 2021.
Mohammad Rafi, director for natural resources at the MAIL said on the occasion that the national policy has been chalked to safeguard the key natural resources. He noted that the forest cover in the country is fast improving. Rafi stressed that members of the society play crucial role in best utilizing and safeguarding the natural resources. The new strategy, he said, would also create jobs for many citizens.
According to the MAIL figures, Afghanistan has some 2.8 percent of its area under forest cover, 47 percent grazing land and 1.8 percent naturally protected areas.
