KABUL (SW) – All arrangements are in place to dispatch first flight of air trade corridor with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to Jeddah, officials announced on Tuesday.

Sameer Rasa, head of public relations at the high directorate of presidential advisor on finance and banking, told journalists here on Tuesday that the Memorandum of Understanding between Afghanistan and the KSA would see about 500 kg of saffron fly to Jeddah soon. According to Mr. Rasay, so far 100 flights have been made through such air corridors established with Turkey, India and Kazakhstan.

He informed efforts are underway to establish more air corridors for trade with the European Union as well as Dubai. "We plan to fly maiden flight from Kabul to Jeddah in the next week, which will take about 500 kg or half a ton of saffron from Kabul to Jeddah," he said.

Rasay added the air corridors for trade have earned the country more than $ 51 million.

The official further said government also aims to distribute land among investors in industrial parks in a bid to attract investment. Soon 4956 acres of land will be offered to investors in industrial parks in 11 provinces of the country, he said. According to this plan, a total of 13 industrial parks will be developed in 11 provinces of the country, with a share of 15% to 20% for women in these parks.

The first such air corridor for trade was established with India in June 2017, after which the residents of the country witnessed the opening of several air corridors with other countries as well raising hopes for surge in exports.
