KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) organized a ground breaking ceremony for the one-of-a-kind football ground for women in Kabul.
Yousuf Kargar, technical head of the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF), said on the occasion that this facility would provide a much needed boost to women football in the country. He pronounced the ongoing year as the year for growth in football in Afghanistan.
The project has been funded by the Alokozay International Group of Companies, and a local firm would complete it in coming four months.
Representing women footballers, Marya thanked the AFF for taking the initiative. He expressed gratitude over the move.
Ali Raza, secretary general of the AFF, said on the occasion that the FIFA has provided them funds to develop football stadiums in Balkh and Kandahar provinces. Ali Raza said these grounds would have artificial grass. It was informed that the AFF ground in Jalalabad would also be covered with artificial grass. At the moment, only the Kabul and Herat facilities of the AFF have artificial grass.
In a separate development, Haroon Popal, candidate for the AFF chairmanship, and Petar Segrt, former national coach, charged the Afghanistan Football Federation for being corrupt. They blamed the AFF leadership has illegally appointed regional heads of the federation across the country, and is barring players from within the country to make it to the national team.
