KANDAHAR CITY (SW) – Authorities in Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces say the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings have been opened to passengers stranded in the Pakistan.
Fazl al-Rabi Hamim, head of the sector services department at Torkham, said all passengers entering the country from Pakistan would be quarantined for 14 to 21 days.
Meanwhile, Sharifullah Gharzai, the border commissioner at Spinboldak in Kandahar, told Salam Watandar the crossing point has been opened this morning following agreement between the elders of the two sides.
According to him, only those Afghans who have IDs and passports or who have gone to Pakistan for treatment can enter the country. Gharzai added that Pakistani border officials had not yet allowed transit goods to enter the country.
A number of civil society activists in Kandahar are urging health officials in the province to closely examine those entering the province through these crossing points.
The two crossing points were closed about a month ago due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
