KABUL (SW) – The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan claimed on Sunday rampant rigging took place in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections last week.
Naeem Ayubzada, chief executive of the TEFA, shared the findings into alleged rigging at a press conference today. He said findings by TEFA indicate a special pen has been used to erase vote casted in favor of certain candidates for the rigging purpose. He said this pen has been found in a polling station in Sarobi.
Ayubzada claimed the pen has been used to change the results. The TEFA chief executive went on to say sorting out genuine and fake votes is a daunting task, and the delay in this process is deliberate for political reasons. He charged elements within the government for seeking political gains in this process.
Meanwhile, Shema Aalam Sarosh, deputy spokesman for the Independent Election Commission, told Salam Watandar the voters’ list is an authentic document to sort out fake votes from the genuine ones.
The TEFA has said the weak management displayed by the IEC during the WJ polls indicate the forthcoming presidential elections might not take place on time.
