LASHKARGAH (SW): In an operation, the Special Forces of the Afghan National Army (ANA) have liberated scores of prisoners held captive by the Taliban in Helmand province.

Local officials have said that the operation was conducted in the province’s Greshk district, and 36 people were liberated from the Taliban’s prison. According to the officials, only four of the captives were civilians while the rest were security personnel.

Umar Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar that most of the captives held in this prison were brought from the Baba Jee and other areas of the province. Without going into the details, Zwak asserted that the Taliban have sustained heavy losses in this operation.

Mohammad Rasul Zazai, Commander at the 215-Maiwand Corps said in this regard that all the liberated individuals are safe and sound. He added that after investigation and biometric verification, the men would be set free.

It is worth noticing that two months ago, scores of security personnel were killed and taken hostage by the militants as they stormed the second police district of the capital Lashkargah in the Baba Jee area.

The Special Forces of the ANA has so far dismantled some four prisons of the Taliban in the province.
