Soy-milk should be served to the security forces

KABUL (SW) – Officials from the first soy-milk processing factory in Kabul want the government to include this product in the food menu for the security forces.

Abdullah Feizi, chairman of the Soybean Milk Factory in Kabul, said in an interview with Salam Watandar that if the government uses this product to feed the security forces, in addition to reducing expenses of the milk imports to the country, the farmers would also benefit.

This factory in Kabul, which has been operating since one year, produces about 3,000 liters of soy milk daily. The plant's owners say they have the capacity to produce up to 25,000 liters of milk per day, and are trying to inform people about the benefits of this product.

Akbar Rustami, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said that along with other domestic products, especially fresh fruits, talks are underway to include soy milk in the list of food for the security forces.

Managers from the soy milk factory say that there are currently nearly 70 people, including ten women, working in the factory, and it has contracts with 400 seed farmers. They hoped the number of workers in the plant will increase to 400 and the number of farmers engaged with this trade would surge to 3500 if the product is enlisted in the official menue.

Soy milk or soymilk is a plant-based drink produced by soaking and grinding soybeans, boiling the mixture, and filtering out remaining particulates.
