MAZAR-E-SHARIF/ JALALABAD (SW): Hundreds of protesters in Balkh and Nangarhar provinces on Sunday took to the streets in solidarity with the activists of the Pashtoon Long March in Pakistan.
Mohammad Ismael Yoon, leader of the Afghanistan National Movement, and Kabul University professor, said while addressing the rally in Jalalabad that the protest in Islamabad by the Pashtoons has once again proved the unity of this community in both the countries. He said the British forcefully captured areas of Afghanistan stretching as far as Attock on the Kabul River.
He further said the peaceful demonstration by the Pashtoons in Islamabad for ten days portrayed and proved the liberal and peaceful face of the community.
Dr. Lal Mohammad, deputy chairman of the provincial council, said on the occasion no line can divide Afghans.
Similar demonstration took place in Mazar-e-Sharif, provincial capital of Balkh province. The participants chanted slogans against Pakistan and Punjab. Zabehullah, a participant of the demonstration, told Salam Watandar that Pashtoons living on both sides of the Durand Line have historic ties, and the demonstration is in support of Pashtoons in Pakistan.
Zabehullah Kakar, member of the provincial council, said on the occasion that solidarity with the Afghans would be expressed from Amu River till the Indus River.
The Pashtoon Long March in Islamabad was sparked by the extra judicial killing of Naqeeb Masood in Karachi last month.
Besides such public rallies in solidarity with the Pashtoon Long March, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has also expressed support for the protesters in Islamabad.
