Soldiers close down Mazar Sharif – Maimana highway

MAIMANA (SW) – An army officer told Salam Watandar a number of soldiers closed down the Mazar Sharif – Maimana highway in protest against non-payment of salaries.

According to the sources, these soldiers staged the protest demonstration against non-payment of salaries and fixed deployment in Dawlat Abad district for the past ten months.

A resident of the Dawlat Abad told Salam Watandar dozens of passengers are stranded on both sides of the district due to the road closure. District governor, Abdul Razaq Kakar, has confirmed that some 500 different vehicles are stranded due to the prevailing situation.

However, spokesman for the 209 – Shaheen Corps, Haneef Rezaey, said he was not aware of any such protest.
