KABUL (SW): Esmatullah who was on a mission in Helmand’s deserts with his fellow, fell prey to a roadside bomb placed by the Taliban. He became unconscious and later after finding his conscious again he felt a severe pain on both of his arms and his hands.

Esmat who is 28 years old, served for four years as a soldier in Afghan National Army (ANA) in Helmand, Balkh, Herat, Kandahar, Kabul and Kunar provinces.

Since losing his two arms, he has returned to his home Rodat district in Nangar province for good.

Narrating the tale of how the incident happened, he said that the Taliban were in ambush and the roadside bomb exploded when their vehicle hit it.

He added that the vehicle engulfed in fire and he managed to make his way out of it but his comrade burned in the fire.

Expressing proud over sacrificing his hands while serving his country, Esmatullah said if he still had only one hand he would have served at the ANA.

He has one son and three daughters and he can’t embrace his children as he has been deprived of arms.

Complaining about the government, he said that the government has forgotten him and his children and they have not received any assistance.

He said that if the government facilitate him to go abroad for treatment, he would return to his job with artificial hands, which would be made for him just to work for the future of his children

Sayed Quraish, his father, whose voice was on the verge of tears, said that his son has gone through misery and hardship and the government should not ignore him.

He said that Esmat has been in a worst economic situation and since losing his hands, the government has never had any attention to him not even to his monthly salary.

The tale of Esmat dedication and conscientiousness might have been the tale of thousands other soldiers who instead of being nurtured and sympathized have been forgotten and have replaced by the fresh ones in their ranks.
