JALALABAD (SW) – In an apparent honor-linked incident of shooting, three people were killed and a girl wounded in Nuristan province, an official confirmed on Sunday.
Hafiz Abdul Qayum, provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the incident took place in Nurgaram district. He added a young girl left her home along with a young man on her own will, but her father resorted to armed assault on the boy’s residence.
Two suspects have been taken into custody by the police, he said.
A local resident, Sahib Dad, told SW the girl left her home last week, but her father orchestrated armed assault on the boy’s home yesterday.
In Nuristan, a communal pact is in place that calls for ‘Nikah’ (marriage agreement) of the young couple that wish to tie knot with their own choice without the necessary approval of their families. However, it is yet to be discovered how this particular incident turned violent and deadly.
There has been an evident rise in cases of so-called honor-killings in Nuristan province.
