KABUL (SW) – Heavy snowstorm has closed the Kabul – Bamyan highway in the Ajigak area.
Ghulam Nabi Qanbari, head of the public works department in Bamyan, told Salam Watandar the snowstorm began last evening, and has resulted in closure of the highway in the Ajigak area. This part of the highway also connects Bamyan to Ghor and Daikundi provinces.
He added three passenger vehicles are stranded in the snow, and efforts are underway to rescue them. A stranded passenger told SW he was with a group of people wishing to transport a dead body from Kabul to Bamyan when the snowstorm caught them stranded early in the morning.
Officials said the heavy snowfall has also closed the Qonaaq pass cutting the highway connecting Daikundi with Kabul.
Khudadad Seerat, head of the public works in Daikundi, said efforts are underway to reopen the closed highways.
People have been advised to avoid travelling on this highway owing to forecast for more snow.
