GHAZNI (SW): Due to the heavy snowfall in the provinces of Ghor and Ghazni, 12 districts’ routes were closed to the provincial centers. The snow volume in districts of Nawar, Ajristan, Malistan, Jaghuri, and Jeghatu has been reported to be between 30 to 50 centimeters.
Ghazni Provincial Council Chair, Khaliqdad Akbari, said most of the families in these districts face shortages of fuel, medicine and food.
Local officials in these districts said that snowstorm continues and people have started cleaning some of the roads to reach the district market to transport food items and winter necessity goods.
Mohammad Asif Zahin, Director of Ministry of Public Works in Ghazni, said that the contract for cleaning roads in these districts has been finalized with contractor companies, and these companies have begun the clean-up of roads.
According to Mr. Zahin, only the clean-up operation of Nawar district, due to the severe snowstorm and bad weather, has been facing difficulties.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesperson for the Governor of Ghor, told Salam Watandar that as a result of rain and snowfall last night, all the roads in the seven western districts of the province to the center, including the district of Chaharsada, have been closed.
The authorities of Ghor Province’s public work said that according to their contract with Rural Development Councils, these councils are obliged to clean-up the roads.
