FARAH CITY (SW) – Officials in Farah province have expressed concerns over rampant use of smuggled vehicles for crimes here.

According to the Farah provincial council, more than 30,000 Pakistani vehicles are currently plying on the streets in the province.

Farah's provincial council member, Daudullah Qaneh, believed the same cares are used in most of the crimes, including incidents of targeted assassinations here. He went on to say the provincial administration has failed to take actions against these smuggled cards.

Muhammad Asif Safi, head of the directorate of traffic, also called the growing number of these vehicles in the province as alarming, but stressed that there is no other solution until the government takes a final decision about it.

Nasser Mehri, spokesman for the governor, said in this regard that 90 percent of the vehicles in Farah are right-hand drive, which is not legal in the country. But, according to him, the provincial administration has drafted a strategy and has also shared it with the Ministry of Interior, to counter the proliferation of such cars.

Five years ago, the Farah provincial administration began to confiscate such vehicles from the market, but the drive was later stopped amid protests from the car dealers.
