‘Slow and poorly managed’ operation in Mirza Olang criticized

SAR-I-PUL (SW): Local officials in Sar-i-Pul have criticized the slow pace and poorly managed military operation launched in the province’s restive Mirza Olang area.

Masooma Ramzani, member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar a large number of security forces have arrived to take on the militants, but they lack leadership and coordination. She stressed that the security leadership should let go of symbolic moves, and practically join the fight against the militants. She stressed that the Taliban and Daesh militants have placed mines in villages around Mirza Olang.

Meanwhile, security officials at the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shaheen Corps have pronounced the ‘Alburz Operation’ against the militants successful. Nasratullah Jamshedi, spokesman for the 209-Shaheen Corps, said the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have inflicted heavy losses upon the militants in Mirza Olang. He added air and ground offensives against the militants are underway, and soon Mirza Olang would be cleared.

However, Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, spokesman for the Taliban, has denied reports about killing of his comrades. He has, instead, asserted that heavy losses have been inflicted upon the ANDSF.

The military operation in Mirza Olang was launched on Thursday last week.
