KABUL (SW) – The Independent Election Commission revealed on Sunday as many as sixty books of voter registration stickers are either lost, burnt or taken away by the Taliban rebels.
A day earlier, the Greater National Alliance of Afghanistan claimed thousands of fake identity cards and voter registration stickers are meant for pre-poll rigging.
Meanwhile, the IEC spokesman, Syed Hafezzullah Hashmi, told a press conference in this connection that the GNAA showed the fake identity cards and missing stickers to press in a bid to ‘sabotage’ the polls. He stressed this political alliance should have shared the matter with the IEC immediately for swift action and accountability.
Defending the delay in admitting thousands of stickers are missing, IEC chief, Abdul Badi Sayad, said closure of electoral commission and workload did not allow the disclosure earlier. The IEC officials urged the law enforcement agencies to take actions in this perspective.
Separately, the Independent Directorate of Population Census, has also criticized the GNAA for not sharing the issue with them. Ruhullah Ahmadzai, IDPC spokesman, told a presser today that the fake and duplicate identity cards with voter registration stickers are not added to the central database.
The IEC officials have also vowed to filter out all fake and duplicate identity cards during the logging into the database.
