KABUL (SW): The sixth season of the Afghan Premier League (APL) kicked-off with an impressive inauguration ceremony here on Thursday.
The holy Quran was recited to start the ceremony that was followed by the national anthem and later a musical concert. All eight teams of the APL showcased the cultural uniqueness of their respective zones at the ceremony under their team flag.
In the first match of the league, defending champion Shaheen Asmaye defeated the 2015 champion Spinghar Bazan with a close margin of 4-3. The winning side played aggressive football from the start, and managed to score three goals in the first half. The second half was dominated by the Spinghar Bazan with three goals against one by the Shaheen Asmaye.
The eight teams are divided in two groups with Shaheen Asmaye, Spinghar Bazan, Uqaban-e-Hindukush, and Mawjhai Amu in Group A while De Maiwand Atalan, Simurg Alburz, De Abbasin Sape and Tofan-e-Harirod in Group B.
On Friday, Tofan-e-Harirod would take on De Maiwand Atalan.
