Six police officials charged with collaborating with drug peddlers

KABUL (SW) – The interior ministry on Thursday announced busting a ring of five top police officials involved in drug peddling.

Nusrat Rahimi, interior ministry spokesman, told a presser in Kabul that Ahmad Ahmadi, director counter-narcotics force in Kabul, and four other senior officers of the counter-narcotics force collaborating with him have been taken into custody.     

He said Ahmadi was arrested while trying to flee the country. He said Ahmadi was one of the ‘leading drug peddlers and mafia kingpin’.

Rahimi said interior ministry conducted some 44 targeted operations against drug traffickers and said that as a result of these operations, 223,841 kilos of drugs were seized.

The interior ministry spokesman also announced the arrests of 1,773 people in connection with criminal offenses in Kabul in the past month, saying 371 people have been arrested in Kabul for murder, bullying, kidnapping and abduction. In recent months, Kabul has witnessed an increase in criminal offenses. Kabul residents accuse security officials of involvement with criminals.
