KABUL (SW): A number of educated women who have returned from Iran are now living collectively in various parts of the capital.
These women, many of whom are employed at government offices and non-governmental organizations, blame the fragile security that has compelled them to live a secluded life. Some of these working women posses masters’ degree and some even with but they are living in group like students in rented homes.
Shahla Sabiry, a lady with masters’ degree in computer sciences, said that she has been in search to rent a house for nearly a month, but has not been able to find it so far. Shahla noted that since she is single, people are reluctant to facilitate her. She added that such single women in the capital are faced with serious hardships when it comes to renting a house. Shahla Sabiry mentioned that she wished to live alone for the rest of her life but people’s negative perception toward single women living on their own has changed her mind.
Born in Iran, Sumaya Rezai, who holds masters’ degree in law, noted that security concerns have convinced her to prefer living in a group. Rezai noted that she can easily seek asylum in Europe but she prefers to stay in the country and serve her nation.
Sumaya Rezai told Salam Watandar that tenancy is the most difficult ordeal she is coping with on daily basis.
Husniya Mahdawi, another educated woman, also noted that security concerns combined with negative perception of the people are the main problems in this regard. Mahdawi added that she is committed to stay in the capital and make use of her experience and proficiency here.
