Shortfall of 2500 teachers in Ghor

CHAGCHARAN (SW): Up to 2500 posts for teachers remain vacant in Ghor province which has left negative impacts on the standard of education in the province.

According to the officials, there was an acute shortage of some 2500 teachers in the province last year, and things do not look much different for the future either. Sibghatullah Akbari, director for education in the province, told Salam Watandar the shortfall could cross the figure of 3000 in the next year.

He regretted that the educated people in the province are least interested in serving as teachers. The provincial council members lament the sad state of affairs that has left Ghor behind in terms of education from other provinces.

Hameedullah Mutahid, member of Ghor provincial council, fear if situation persisted, the students would lose hope. Abdul Hameed, another member of the provincial council, noted many individuals teaching in different public schools are not qualified enough. He added a large of number of teachers is either high school graduates or holders of the bachelor’s degree only.

The provincial directorate of education is hopeful the Ministry of Education would play its due role in resolving the crisis.

There are an estimated 884 primary schools in Ghor where up to 220, 000 students are enrolled.
