FARAH (SW) – A member in the Farah provincial council claimed the Sheb Koh district in the province has been vacated for the Taliban rebels.
Shah Mehmood Naemi, a member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the security forces have vacated the district in line with the demand of the people and the decision by the provincial security council. He added that due to lack of resources and personnel, and in a bid to strengthen the provincial capital, Farah city, the forces have been withdrawn from Sheb Koh.
The PC member said the security forces withdrawn from the district have been stationed in Farah city. Naema said the proposal was pitched long ago, and implemented only yesterday.
Muhibullah Muhib, spokesman for police, however, stressed the proposal has been suggested, but no implemented so far. He said the provincial security council has not issued directives for the forces to leave the district. Muhib asserted soon this idea would be implemented to evade the high casualty rate among the security forces.
The Taliban claimed to have overran the district after keeping it under siege for years. Dozens of security forces have been killed by the rebels in this restive district of Farah.
