KABUL (SW): The Shamshad TV in Kabul was stormed by armed attackers on Tuesday killing at least three of its staff members.
At least three hours after the attack, Shamshad TV announced the attack has ended, and transmissions have resumed.
Presidential palace has vehemently condemned this attack. “The enemies of Afghanistan have once again proved they do not hesitate from committing all sorts of conspiracies, acts against humanity and even attack against media and right of freedom. The terrorists cannot limit the freedom of speech with such attacks”, it said promising tight security for media houses.
Nai – supporting open media in Afghanistan, has pronounced this as worst attack in the history of media in Afghanistan. Based on the reports, at least 20 people got injured in this attack. A security source informed Salam Watandar that three attackers targeted the Shamshad TV at around 11:00 am.
Najib Danish, interim spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), has noted in a statement that the special forces have reached the area to take on the attackers, and all staff has been evacuated.
