KABUL (SW): Bellicose wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq has been cleared by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to feature in the domestic cricket on Sunday.
According to the ACB, Shafaq was banned and suspended for six months from all cricket for violating rules and regulation of the Board in March, 2016. “Shafiqullah Shafiq will be joining Kabul Green Cricket Team and will be playing domestic, Alokozay – Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day tournament in Kabul.” said, Afghanistan Cricket Board Discipline Committee.
Though, Shafaq was barred from any official action but the right-handed batsman did feature in a friendly cricket tournament in Khost, and demonstrated notable performance. After the green signal from the ACB, the 27-years old Shafaq can now play for the Kabul Green in the ongoing Ahmad Shah Abdadi Four-Day Cricket Tournament. Kabul Green has lost both of its initial matches in this tournament to the Mes Aynak team.
A communiqué shared by the ACB has quoted Shafaq saying that he is happy to be back in action. “I am happy and will not violate rules and regulation of the Afghanistan Cricket Board in future. I will play with more zeal for Afghanistan Cricket Team.”
Shafiqullah has participated in two World T20 campaigns, and top-scored with a 43-ball 56 in Afghanistan's series-leveling win over Zimbabwe in July 2014
