LASHKARGAH (SW) – Brig. Gen. Zahirgul Muqbil, Commander of 4th infantry brigade of the 215-Maiwand Crops, got killed in a landmine blast in Helmand province.
Umer Zwak, spokesman for the provincial administration, told Salam Watandar the incident took place in the restive Marja district. He added four more people, including a local journalist, got injured in the blast.
The spokesman said the slain commander was heading a convoy of local journalists to review the situation in Marja following a security clean-up operation there.
The Taliban took responsibility for the attack.
