CHAGCHARAN (SW): Locals in Ghor province have shut down a religious seminary in the Saghar district on the charges of promoting terrorism.

The seminary situated close to the Eid Gah mosque in the district was blamed for providing training for terrorist activities besides religious studies. Mawlawi Mohammad Ibrahim Khalili, a local religious elder in the district, informed Salam Watandar that the students of this seminary were in close contact with the Taliban. He added that the youth were being brainwashed for extremist and terrorist activities here.

Syed Mohsin Sadat, district governor, has confirmed the incident. He said the locals have closed down this religious seminary on charges of planning terrorist attacks. The district governor went on to say the religious seminary was not legally registered, and was receiving food aid from traders in the neighboring Herat province.

Sadat charged that the administration of the seminary was involved in planting an improvised explosive device outside the Eid Gah mosque on the occasion of Eid that injured a policeman. The management of the seminary is on the run, and efforts are underway to nab them, he added.

Mohammad Iqbal Nizami, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, said in this regard that the seminary has been closed down following a string of blasts here. Abdul Hai Khatibi, the spokesman for the provincial governor, however, said he was not aware about the matter.

It is worth noticing that students from Herat and Farah were also enrolled in this seminary.
