“Segrt Petar lobbying for his lost post”

03/04/2017

KABUL (SW): Captain of the national football squad Faisal Shaista has hinted that the former head coach Segrt Petar, the Croatian-born German, is lobbying for his lost post.

On his official facebook page, Shaista noted that the former coach has met with Haroon Popal who is one of the contenders for the top post at the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF). Hailing the former head coach as a competent individual, Shaista has suggested that Segrt Petar should acknowledge and respect that current coach Otto Pfister, also from Germany.

Raising concerns about the future of football, Shaista has urged the Afghans not to support those who want to roll-back the gains. He referred to the latest games against Vietnam and Singapore, and gave the credit to the new coach Otto Pfister for good performance of the team.

Salam Watandar wished to have the views of Haroon Popal on this issue, but to no avail. The AFF has, however, simply shared the note written and published by the captain.

Crisis in the football team deepened as a number of national players raised objection over the AFF’s move to recall controversial player Zohib Islam Amiri back to the national squad. This came following the outburst of the former head coach Segrt Petar who pronounced Amri as trouble-maker and charged the AFF for bringing him back without consulting him. Segrt resigned from his post in November last year.
