Security officials in Bamyian blamed for hunting deers

30/05/2018

BAMIYAN (SW): A number of environmental activists in Bamiyan province have expressed concern over the hunting of wild animals, especially “deer” by security officials in this province. These activists told Salam Watandar that individuals affiliated with General Abdulmubin Izidyar, the Bamiyan security commander, have been illegally hunting the animals over the past few days.

Ibrahim Hafeezian, a resident of Bamiyan told Salam Watandar that yesterday a man named Rahmatullah affiliated with the Provincial Security Commander hunted a deer in Dara-e Shikari in Kohmard district and has sent the meat to the Provincial Security Commander.

Meanwhile, General Abdulmubin Izidyar, the Bamiyan Provincial Security Commander, in a conversation with Salam Watandar rejected the news and said he is not aware of the matter.

Izidyar said these are rumors and the police did not hunt animals, though, he assured that an investigation will be conducted and if such action was committed the perpetrators will be punished.

The Bamiyan Environmental Bureau wrote on its Facebook page that: “According to reports and witnessing of volunteer environmentalists, hunting of animals are mostly conducted by the police in this province, if this is not followed up, the wildlife species including deer will be exterminated in this province”.

We contacted the Bamiyan Environmental Bureau to get their view on this news but to no avail.

The hunting of animals was banned by a presidential decree issued on 9th June 2010, and deers are protected animals under this decree. According to the presidential decree, the security forces are required to implement this decree.
