KUNDUZ CITY (SW): The militants launched offensives in a bid to overrun the center and other districts in northern province Kunduz on Friday.
The fighting lasted hours before the security forces thwarted the militants’ attacks.
Gen. Qasim Jangal Bagh, Police Chief in Kunduz, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban carried out attacks from Talaka and Charkhab areas to capture the center of the province along with other districts like Ali Abad, Chahardara, Khanabad, Dasht-e-Archi and Imam Saheb.
He said that following the militants’ attacks, security forces reacted and foiled their offensives.
He added that the Taliban have sustained heavy casualties so far.
Currently the fighting is still underway between security forces and the Taliban near Charkhab.
It is worth mentioning that the fighting is flaring up between the security forces and the militants in Chardara district as well.
Gul Mohammad, a local police official in Chardara, said that the security forces have managed to push back the militants.
Police Chief in Kunduz, Jangal Bagh, said that fresh supporting forces have been dispatched to all districts in the province.
