HERAT CITY (SW) – Head of the Afghan – Turk School students’ committee in Herat has blamed the security forces for storming the campus and taking away 20 teachers and students.
Syed Omar Qitali, head of the Afghan – Turk School students’ committee said the officials from the directorate of education together with the security forces entered the school and altered the administration. He demanded the government to ensure continuation of the syllabus and release of the students and children taken into custody.
In the meanwhile, Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the governor, discarded reports about the security forces storming the school. He clarified the security forces were there only to ensure peace and order. Jailani said the changes in Afghan – Turk schools are in line with the agreement between the education ministries of the two countries.
Jailani said the number of these schools would be lifted from 12 to 24. The spokesman said the Ministry of Education would review the education affairs at these schools and would ensure the Afghan teachers of these schools continue with their job.
Farzad Frotan, interim head of the directorate of police in Herat, has also discarded reports about the security forces storming the school.
