KUNDUZ CITY (SW): After a brief fall of the Qala-e-Zaal district in northern Kunduz province to the Taliban, the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have managed to reclaim it.
Clashes have been underway between the security forces and the militants in Qala-e-Zaal district for the past 4 days now. Gen. Rahat Mangal, an Afghan National Army (ANA) commander, said that the district briefly fell to the militants but the security forces recaptured it on Thursday morning.
Gen. Qasim Jangalbagh, police chief in the province, however said that the district has not fallen to the militants at all, and the security forces have full control over it. He said that during the fighting between the security forces and the militants in Qala-e-Zaal, Safiullah Amiri, the police chief in the district along with his four men have been injured.
Local officials have confirmed that the militants have been expelled from the district, and currently sporadic fighting is underway near the center of the district.
