Security forces recapture Khanshin

LASHKARGAH (SW): The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have recaptured Khanshin district in southern province Helmand from the Taliban on Sunday.

Taliban captured Khanshin nearly 10 days ago and the mop-up operation was conducted to recapture it last Saturday.

A number of members at Helmand Provincial Council, said on Sunday that the Taliban have only been expelled from the center of the district, and that the security forces have not managed to capture the district building completely. It has been the seond time when Khanshin fell to the militants over the course of a month.

Omar Zowak, Spokesman for Helmand’s governor, said that the operation to recapture the areas under the Taliban’s control has been effective and has improved the situation in the area.

He said that enough troops have been deployed to the area and the militants would be fully cleared of the areas under their control.

Some members at the Helmand Provincial Council, said that the security forces have not yet captured the center of the district.

Baryalai Nazari and Attaullah Afghan, two members at the council, said that Taliban have voluntarily left the area for the security forces and it would be a great achievement for the security forces to capture the center of the district.

Taliban have yet to comment about it.
