MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW) – Security officials in Balkh province have taken positions outside the home of Nizamuddin Qayisari, a former district police commander of Faryab province.
Balkh police say several security units, including units of the 888 Division, were engaged to arrest Qaisari, but these forces were met with resistance from Qaisari’s men leaving one security officer wounded as a result of the clashes.
Adel Shah Adel, a spokesman for the Balkh police, told Salam Watandar that the clashes began at 9pm last night and are still ongoing.
Witnesses in Mazar-i-Sharif say light and heavy weapons have been used in this clash.
The Balkh police spokesman said they had received complaints of Qaysari's racketeering and bullying in the city.
Qaysari has not yet commented on the matter in public.
