PUL-I-KHOMRI (SW): The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have dismantled a Hizb-e-Islami- run private prison in northern Baghlan province on Monday.
Security officials in Baghlan province said that Qari Mirwais, a Hizb-e-Islami commander, would use the prison to imprison anyone who refrained to pay taxes “Usher and Zakat” to them. Ziauddin, commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shahin Corps in Baghlan, said that Qari Mirwais had been engaged in anti-government activities for a number of years.
He added that the security forces carried out an operation last night, which led to capturing the Rofak-e-Kar area that was under Taliban’s control for 16 years.
He stated that the clashes left 2 insurgents killed and 5 more wounded. He added that the security forces have arrested 5 other Taliban fighters too.
Speaking about Hazb-e-Isalmi and Taliban military activities in Baghlan province, Abdul Satat Barez, the governor for the province said that the security forces have now gained full strength to eliminate the insurgents. He went on to say that anti-insurgents operation in Baghlan would continue to fully clear the province of the rebels.
In the meantime, Amir Gul Hassankhil, a security official in the province, told Salam Watandar that Dodkash and Ahandara-e-Kar Kar coal mines in the province were also under the control of Hizb-e-Islami fighters for nearly 4 months, but the security forces defeated them last night after successful ‘Navid 11 Operation’.
The clash between Hizb-e-Islami’s fighters and security forces comes at a time when the peace negotiation between Gulbuddin Hikmatyar-led Hizb-e-Islami and Afghan government is expected to be held in Kabul later his week.
