MAIMANA (SW): The security forces have abandoned 4 outposts in Ghormach district of Faryab province, a source in Faryab province, who wished to remain anonymous, told Salam Watandar.
The source informed that a number of security forces stationed in the outposts who were besieged by the Taliban have abandoned the outposts.
According to the source, these troops arrived on Sunday night with their weapons at the Army's 3rd Battalion near the outposts. The source added that the 4 abandoned outposts are currently taken by the Taliban.
Ahmad Jawid Bidar, the provincial governor’s spokesman, did not comment on the issue of troops leaving their outpost, but he said that the outposts were created for the defense of the soldiers. He justified that the security forces do not need the outposts any longer. “A the operation to retake the district starts, new outposts will be created in appropriate areas of the district”, informed Bidar.
The Taliban claimed in statement that the security forces have deserted 6 outposts in Aab Garmak area of the district, and the outposts are now under their control.
It is worth mentioning that a number of soldiers from the Afghan National Army (ANA) 3rd battalion, who have been stationed in the Ghormach district of Faryab province, are for some time under the Taliban siege, warned on Sunday that they would leave their outposts if food and equipment are not supplied to them.
