JALALABAD (SW) – Scores of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan have launched a second peace march of the kind in Afghanistan in a bid to urge the warring sides to shun violence.
Carrying the message of peace, the march began in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and reached Jalalabad, capital of Nangarhar province, on Thursday. The peace marchers would join the Helmand Peace March in the capital Kabul.
Jarnel Pashtun, a native resident of Paktia province, is leading this march. He told Salam Watandar the participants are striving to amplify the public’s calls for peace. “This is the voice for protecting and awakening the masses…we want an end to the miseries”.
Shakir Sabawoon, another member of the group, said the peace marchers want the Taliban and the government to ceasefire for good. “We call upon the government, the Taliban and the people to stand for peace and strive for harmony for the future generations”.
The convoy is set to leave for Kabul after some meetings in Nangarahr.
