QALA-I-NAU (SW) – Scores of the Taliban insurgents on Saturday stormed Qala-e-Nau, provincial capital of Badghes province, officials confirmed.
Abdullah Afzali, deputy chairmen for the provincial council, told Salalm Watandar heavy exchange of gunfire can be heard at a distance of few meters from the provincial police headquarters.
The provincial council chairman, Abdul Aziz Baik, said in this regard that two would-be suicide bombers were shot dead by the security forces close to the police headquarters. He confirmed clashes are underway in Qala-e-Nau.
The Taliban have not commented in this regard.
