HERAT CITY (SW) – Up to 500 children have been admitted in hospitals due to diarrhea and gastroenteritis caused by scorching heatwave in Herat province.
Health officials in the province informed Salam Watandar at least two children have lost their lives due to the harsh weather. Mohammad Rafiq Sherzay, spokesman for the regional public hospital in Herat, informed that the health state of over 100 children is critical.
Health experts have advised parents to take extra care of their children, avoid long-distance travel and ensure adequate fluids for them.
Mirwais Abidi, head of the pediatric hospital in Herat, said in this regard that the viral diseases such as diarrhea and gastroenteritis are on the rise due to the hot weather and electricity breakdowns. He advised families to maintain home temperatures below 30 degrees centigrade.
